This man bought a cheap Lamborghini, but it ended up costing him far more than he bargained for.

The YouTuber – Hoovies Garage – is well-known for making seemingly questionable decisions and taking his audience along for the ride, usually with entertaining results.

At first, it seemed he’d picked up a good deal on the orange 2006 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster.

But after receiving a repair estimate from his mechanic, the bargain hunter was feeling pretty regretful.

The seemingly well-priced supercar

Tyler Hoover of Hoovie’s Garage bought what he claims was the cheapest Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster in the United States.

He also claims that his channel is the ‘dumbest automotive channel in the whole of YouTube’, and while we can’t speak on that, we can confirm his latest purchase might not have been the best call.

The Roadster was bought for $76,000 and sold to Hoover with a hefty finder’s fee slapped on.

Still, these models can fetch up to $234,000, so the fact that he got one for under six figures is exciting.

That’s where the excitement stops, however, as the car has landed Hoover with a long list of issues.

Cosmetically, it’s in good condition and the cream and orange interior looks good too.

It has got 17,000 miles on the clock, which is certainly less than the Murcielago which has racked up 300,000 miles on the odometer, but still significant.

Another problem is it can’t handle being in first gear without making some seriously troubling sounds.

Hoover knew as he drove basking in the glow of his airbag warning light and check engine light that he needed to take it to his mechanic.

The Murcielago wasn’t in perfect condition, but it was better off than the one that was abandoned by an actor in a junkyard.

While some restorations totally transform the base model, like the Murcielago that was turned into a one-of-a-kind cyberpunk car, Hoover wanted to restore his to its former glory.

Climbing out of the Murcielago was almost as daring as taking it to the track, as the dodgy scissor doors threatened to slam down in a guillotine-like motion at random.

The parts to fix them cost just $80, but with the labor the job amounted to $500.

Other hidden expenses included replacing the 2004 rear tires for $500 each, a coil replacement for $300 and a $200 oil change.

Relatively tame, considering how much an oil change can cost if the car in question is a Bugatti Veyron.

What really sent Hoover over the edge was the transmission.

When they drained the it, big chunks and teeth from the first gear poured out too.

It was clear the cheap Lamborghini would need a new transmission

With secondhand parts, the job would set the YouTuber back $18,000.

If he wanted a brand-new transmission, it would be an eye-watering $48,000.

He settled for the secondhand option, much to the dismay of his mechanic who had already been eyeing out a small island he was hoping to buy with the cheque.
