Mercedes-AMG One: F1 road-car
This supercar from Mercedes-AMG is as close to a road-going Formula 1 car as you can find.
For starters, the engine is a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6.
That might not sound impressive – until you realize that this is close to the engine used in the Formula 1 car.
And Mercedes-AMG is far from done there, with four electric motors included in the setup.
The company managed to integrate one electric motor into the turbocharger.
Another is installed directly into the combustion engine, linked to the crankcase.
The last two motors power the front wheels.
It comes as little surprise, then, that the car produces 1,063HP.
Even more impressive is the fact that all 275 units, priced at $2.46m, have already sold out.
The first of the limited run was delivered in January 2023, with the rest of the production ongoing.
Cost of owning the One explains the clientele
With clientele including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, and Valtteri Bottas, the cost becomes understandable.
However, the cost of owning, maintaining, and driving a Mercedes AMG-One will absolutely shock you.
German YouTuber Michael Spegel runs the channel Gercollector.
And he decided to do some digging into the costs involved with the Mercedes-AMG One.
Get ready, because some of these expenses will make your stomach turn.
Let’s start with your standard yearly service – $45,500.
Yes, that’s right. Two technicians spend a week replacing oil, coolant, fluid, and parts.
The labor costs alone are around $32,000 – Mercedes charge $380 per hour for 80 hours of work.
And the total keeps on rising
If you thought that was the end of the ‘insane’ costs, as Michael put it, then you’re wrong.
Should you damage your AMG One, then new Magnesium wheels will cost $92,000 a set.
A rear diffuser will cost you $57,000, while a front end replacement will be another $92,000.
And this isn’t even the most expensive news – in fact, it’s a bargain compared to what’s next.
As we mentioned, the incredible engine is directly Formula 1-derived. Which means it requires specialized care.
In fact, it requires a complete and total overhaul every 31,000 miles.
If you’re wincing at the potential costs, well, you should be.
In the worst-case scenario, this overhaul could cost you a whopping $866,900.
At this point, you might literally have to be an F1 driver just to afford the maintenance.
