Meet the PrankPort, a fake magnetic EV charging port that can be attached to any vehicle.

No parks left? Attach the PrankPort and you can sneak your way into that coveted EV parking spot.

But be warned, it could also get you into trouble.

The Amazon listing for the product describes it as ‘perfect for parking in EV spots and getting hilarious reactions’.

It describes it as having an authentic design that will create viral-worthy moments.

And they’re not wrong, because this does look legit, almost.

The 3D-printed magnetic charging port also comes in J1772 or Tesla-style.

However, if you use the fake EV charging port to park your car in an EV charging spot, it can get you into trouble in some parts of the world.

For example, in Australia parking a gas-powered car in an EV charging spot can get you a hefty fine of up to $3,200.

“There needs to be an acknowledgment that there are places you can park and places you can’t. And right in front of an EV charger is one where you can’t,” Australian Electric Vehicle Association national president Chris Jones said.

Although it may seem like an innocent life hack to run a quick errand to the grocery store, it can be quite annoying for EV owners.

Not only is it morally questionable, but it can also lighten your wallet, depending on where you live.

There’s also the fact that all-electric pickup trucks are becoming more commonplace.

So the joke might have a short shelf life.
