Wyoming can flex that it has the fastest drivers in America, New Yorkers trail behind

According to a study that has recorded driving habits and routes throughout the entirety of the US, Wyoming has been found to have the fastest drivers in America, while New York trails far behind.

It’s no secret that different parts of America attract very different driving styles.

If you’re out in the Midwest, it’s all about size and power, while the glowing roads of the eastern Sunshine State, AKA Florida, call for low-riding style and expense.

But who is the fastest?

With an ever-changing driving infrastructure in the US, several studies have tried to define which state is the best state to be a driver.

Whether it’s finding the best place for EV infrastructure or determining which state is more prone to driving mishaps, America has been under the microscope.

Car comparison site MoneySuperMarket has now been studying patterns on Google Maps’ Route API system, clocking long-distance journeys at certain times of the day.

With an emphasis on highway driving along the most popular city-to-city routes, the study found that Americans clock an average of 68.1MPH.

But the biggest overscorers and the fastest drivers in America are those from Wyoming.

Many of the larger states along the Canada border were found to post high speeds over the 70MPH barrier, such as South Dakota and Idaho.

So it might not come as much of a surprise to know that a number of states in the north have actively increased their interstate speed limits to 80MPH.

Despite being on the southern border, New Mexico drivers also found sixth gear more frequently.

To little surprise, the smaller traffic-riddled states scored the lowest, with New Hampshire posting a snail’s pace average of 49.9MPH.

Out there among the slowest states were Vermont, Maryland, and Rhode Island. Surprisingly, both California and New York were also in the bottom 10.

Congestion or slouches? You decide.

Poor old New York was also found to have the sixth-slowest urban driving speeds, too, with cars crawling along at a steady 21.5MPH.

Still, all states appear to have higher driving speeds than drivers in the UK. Slowpokes.

Funnily enough, a different study found that three of the highest-scoring speedsters also have the same most-popular cars.

Not a bad time to own a Ford, huh?
