This woman attempted to tow her boat to a San Diego lake using a Tesla Cybertruck rather than her usual choice of a Ram 2500.
Dani, the host of YouTube channel Techie Dani, wanted to tow her 3,500Ib boat 100 miles from Newport Beach to Lakeside, and back.
This would be Dani’s first time towing with a Cybertruck and she was curious to see how it would handle.
Given that boats aren’t known for being particularly aerodynamic, this could make for a bumpy ride.

Switching out a Ram 2500 for a Tesla Cybertruck
When it comes to towing, there’s some stiff competition between the Cybertruck and the Ram 2500.
As far as EVs go, the Cybertruck may be the king of towing.
We’ve seen it in action plenty of times to know that, like when it hauled an 8,000Ib boat through Arizona.
But how does it compare to the Ram 2500?
We’ve seen the two go head to head before, as was the case when they both towed 8,000Ib trailers.
However it pans out, people love putting their Cybertrucks to the test – even having them tow other vehicles, like this Rivian.
Dani’s challenge wasn’t quite so strenuous, but there was still potential for things to go haywire.
At the top of the journey, the truck had a 99 percent battery charge, and Dani had to keep an eye on energy usage throughout the trip.
How did the drive down to San Diego go?
The journey itself involved a lot of hilly terrain.
Compared to the route these guys faced in Alaska, it was a cake-walk.
One thing that went in the Cybertruck’s favor on the trip was a lack of noise – Dani couldn’t hear anything while sitting in the passenger seat.
“I can barely hear the road,” she said.
“That’s amazing.”
Dani’s husband, Corey, was driving and described the Cybertruck as ‘very stable’ and ‘very smooth’.
“You get all the benefits of a Tesla but you get to tow things that you wouldn’t be able to, otherwise.
“I’ve towed this boat before in the Model Y. It was an okay experience, but it’s a big draw on your battery.
“We had gotten a maximum of 100 miles towing the boat [with the Model Y] so I’m glad that the Cybertruck seems to be doing a lot better,” he said
It wouldn’t be until the return trip that the Cybertruck would need to stop for a supercharge.
All in all, the journey used 139kWh in total.
This confirmed to Dani and Corey that the Cybertruck was capable of towing on shorter trips, but there was potential for it to go further.
“It exceeded our expectations or met them…or maybe a little bit of both,” Dani said.
“It’s a real no-brainer if you’re only going to be going short distances.
“But it can definitely go further,” Corey agreed.
