Volvo’s best-selling model, the Volvo XC60, is soon going to be produced in the United States.
The XC60 recently dethroned another icon to become the brand’s best-selling vehicle.
But there are at least two reasons why Volvo is moving production to the United States.
And the car’s popularity is only one of these reasons.

Why Volvo’s best-selling model will be produced in the US
More than 2.7 million Volvo XC60s have been delivered so far, which means this is now the brand’s best-selling model.
More to the point, the XC60’s new ‘record’ is unlikely to be beaten anytime soon, chiefly because the second-best-selling model is the 240, which is no longer in production.
The car’s growing popularity certainly played a key part in the automaker’s decision to move production to the United States, but it isn’t the only reason.
The Swedish automaker’s decision to assemble the car locally also has a lot to do with new tariffs being imposed by the current US administration.
Volvo is going through some changes
Most of the models in the brand’s current line-up didn’t exist 20 or even 10 years ago.
And, by contrast, the vast majority of the Swedish maker’s models are no longer in production.
That goes for the aforementioned 240, but also for the V70, the 850, and the indestructible P1800.
Chinese company Geely acquired Volvo a few years ago, and as a result, the brand has since changed direction with a lot more focus on EVs.
Most people probably won’t find this particularly surprising.
The Chinese automotive market is heavily investing in EVs across the board.
Geely, for example, also owns other automakers including Lotus, Smart, Polestar, and – some people may not know this – the company that makes London Black Cabs.
And what do these brands all have in common?
They all make electric vehicles and nothing else.
