Zack Nelson, host of the YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, was loaned the truck by Ford and he put it to good use.

Having previously put his Rivian R1T into a similar challenge, this video would determine which was the stronger towing truck.

So, would the F-150 rise to the occasion or would it buckle under the pressure?

Did the Ford F-150 Lightning have any advantages when it came to towing?

If there’s one thing that guys with big trucks love doing, it’s making them tow.

Cars such as the Tesla Cybertruck have frequently been put through the ringer, whether it be towing a Pebble Flow RV or a 10,000Ibs Rivian.

And some have set inexplicable records, like the Tata Curvv in the video above, which towed a 47 ton Boeing 737.

So how would the F-150 fare when it came to towing 10,000 pounds?

Before he got behind the steering wheel, Zack theorized that it might have an advantage over the Rivian.

He said: “While the Ford and the Rivian do have the same battery size underneath, the F-150 has a few perks that might help it.

“First of all, it has straight tires instead of off-road tires.

“Secondly, instead of four electric motors the Lightning has two, which gives it more range than the Rivian.

“The Lightning has 310 miles of range, whilst with the Rivian you only had 275.”

But enough stats, let’s get down to the nuts and bolts of the comparison.

How does the Lightning do when it comes to towing 10,000 pounds over a 112 mile journey?

Interestingly, the Lightning had the exact same time as the Rivian when it came to reach 60mph from zero – 12.3 seconds.

Jerry was complimentary of the towing at the start: “I can barely feel the trailer behind me.

“So much fun to drive.”

However, he did say that it wasn’t ‘as smooth’ as the Rivian, which had a higher suspension.

But there was one place in which the Lightning ‘slaughters’ the Rivian.

Zack said: “There is so much information on this dashboard.

“The screen can tell me how much power is being utilized by the front and back moment.

“For me, more information is better.”

But as far as overall towing goes, which truck came out as the top dog?

JerryRigEverything

Well, the Lightning managed a 112 mile trip and had 18 miles of fuel left – 30 miles more than the Rivian.

Zack suggested that the street tires may have played the part, whilst also conceding that he was driving in spring, as compared to winter when he tried out the Rivian.
