Jaguar is working on a new Taycan killer, an electric sedan designed to take on Porsche’s first electric vehicle.

There’s a lot we don’t know about the car, but we do know what it looks like thanks to these images shared by Jaguar.

A couple of small things stand out, and then there’s a bigger one.

And that is the sheer size of the car, because it looks absolutely massive.

Jaguar’s new electric sedan looks super long

The images, shared by Jaguar themselves, reveal a large vehicle that looks halfway between a shooting brake and a sedan.

The hood is incredibly long, and the windows also stand out, paradoxically, because they appear to be very tiny.

And there’s another thing because, unlike most recent Jaguar vehicles, the upcoming electric sedan looks a lot more square, with sharp angles and edges.

What’s next for Jaguar

Jaguar has been pretty quiet for the past couple of years.

In 2022, they launched a final-edition version for the F-Type before discontinuing production.

The future of its two non-electric SUVs, the E-Pace and F-Pace, is also uncertain.

More recently, they unveiled a new E-Type, but that was essentially just Jaguar’s birthday present to itself.

Designed to look exactly like the original, the new E-Type is great but it is limited to two units, literally only two.

We also know that Waymo, Google’s self-driving taxi, uses fleets of Jaguar I-PACE SUVs.

This begs an important question about the future of the robotaxi company itself, because Waymo is expanding quite rapidly, but it is doing so with a car that apparently has no future.

Jaguar made it clear the I-PACE will be retired next year and, at least for now, they aren’t going to replace it.

Why everyone is calling this the Taycan killer

Jaguar

Calling anything a ‘something killer’ is a bit of a gamble.

The history of mobile phones is full of ‘iPhone killers’ that went bankrupt.

The thing is, Taycan is not only Porsche’s fastest and most powerful vehicle, but it also created a whole new segment, luxury electric sedans, and so far there hasn’t been a proper ‘Taycan killer’.

Tesla and Lucid are both potential rivals, but many argue that’s not an apples-to-apples comparison because Porsche has a stronger brand.

The upcoming Lotus Emeya might be a contender, but the car is still being tested.

As for the Jaguar, we’ll have to just wait and see.
