Two luxury family SUVs went head to head in a drag race and what happened next blew everyone away

In the streets of Abu Dhabi, two heavyweight luxury SUVs lined up for an impromptu drag race.

This was not an official event with teams backed by leading carmakers, but a race organized by a YouTuber.

The two cars in question were the Nissan Patrol and the Lexus LX600, both of which were fitted with V6 engines, ensuring a fair fight.

Of course, no matter how evenly matched they may be, there could be only one winner.

YouTuber Mat Watson, who runs car racing channel Carwow, said he had no input when it came to choosing the two vehicles.

He was at a car event in Abu Dhabi, and he simply asked a few locals whether they could drag race their cars.

They said yes and just handed the YouTuber their keys, something Watson said would ‘never happen in the UK’.

In terms of specs, the Nissan Patrol packs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.

It’s an all-wheel drive, and has a 9-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the Lexus LX600 is equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.

The LX600 is slightly lighter, and boasts a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Now, back to the race. The two vehicles started by going head-to-head in a simple quarter mile drag race, in a best-of-three.

While the two were almost neck and neck, being only inches apart at the finish line, the Nissan Patrol was declared the winner after the third race.

Perhaps the Nissan SUV inherited some of its racing genes from the carmaker’s famous GT-R.

Next, they did a roll race over a half-mile distance.

This time, the Lexus LX600 reigned supreme, likely due to its better transmission setup.

Finally, the two luxury SUVs tested their abilities in an emergency brake test.

The Nissan Patrol surprisingly took the crown for this category, as even though it was slightly heavier, it had a much better stopping distance.

With the score being 3:2 in the Nissan Patrol’s favor, there’s still one factor that hasn’t been discussed: price.

While the Lexus LX600 starts at $106,500, the Nissan Patrol is much more affordable, with options starting from $58,530, netting another win for the Nissan.

Perhaps one should put the $3,000 fake Chinese Lexus to the test, to see how it compares.
