What to expect with these new EV models from Toyota in 2027

Plenty of carmakers have boosted their EV offerings in recent years, such as Kia and Hyundai – and it seems that Toyota is set to follow suit.

In news from the Nikkei report, the marque is set to double down by launching 10 new EVs by 2027, a massive surge from the current five models in its line-up.

In addition to this, the auto giant is set to expand its production to the US, China and Argentina.

How can Toyota keep up with leading EV automotive giants?

The demand for EVs has seen staggering growth in recent years.

BYD sold more than 166,000 all-electric vehicles last month alone with a massive overall increase of 39 percent from Q1 2024.

Toyota’s own EV sales were up 34 percent last year with nearly 140,000 units sold.

Starting in 2026, it will begin producing its first three-row electric SUV in the USA; with those in Europe looking to see three new Toyota electric SUVs, including the updated bZ4X, C-HR+, and Urban Cruiser.

In accordance with the other models, a next-gen Lexus EV is also scheduled for release, starting around mid to late 2027.

And around the same time, Subaru will build a new electric SUV developed in collaboration with Toyota.

It’s expected to land in North America, Europe, Japan, and other global markets.

What’s next on the agenda for the carmaker?

In combating its shortfall, Toyota will build an electric version of its Hilux pickup, which could be a strong rival for the BYD’s popular Shark model as well as other plug-in and EV trucks.

The automaker expects to build around 800,000 EVs in 2026 to make up some ground.

Although that’s almost 50 percent less than its initial 1.5 million target, it’s still a significant jump from the 140,000 EVs it sold in 2024.
