Toyota’s 600HP Toyota engine is being developed to deliver exceptional performance through advanced hybrid tech and a compact four-cylinder layout.

Designed with Gazoo Racing’s future in mind, this engine could represent a major shift in the company’s approach to internal combustion.

It is part of a broader effort to redefine the limits of small displacement powertrains.

Despite growing global pressure to shift to electric-only vehicles, Toyota continues to invest in combustion-based innovation.

The 600HP Toyota engine has some serious power

Toyota previewed the engine earlier this year in the GR Yaris M concept, which debuted with a mid-mounted 2.0-liter unit known as the G20E.

This setup reportedly produced around 400 to 450 horsepower using an IHI turbocharger.

However, engineers leaked that a larger turbo making 600 horsepower is “easily possible.”

That output would eclipse the AMG M139 engine used in the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S E Performance, which produces 469 horsepower.

Toyota

The 600HP Toyota engine could push Gazoo Racing into a new league of four-cylinder development, offering a compelling alternative to V6 and V8 units.

Internal tests have extended beyond the GR Yaris M.

A prototype Lexus IS fitted with the same engine was seen undergoing testing, suggesting that Toyota is experimenting with the platform across multiple vehicle types.

While official confirmation remains limited, the engineering team has made it clear that this powertrain is not a one-off experiment.

Toyota

Engineers have also confirmed that the G20E was designed with tuning in mind.

Cylinder spacing was deliberately widened to support future upgrades.

The layout also accommodates both longitudinal and transverse configurations, making it highly adaptable for front-engine or mid-engine cars.

This flexibility makes it a strong candidate for future Gazoo Racing entries, including possible revivals of the Celica and MR2.

Hybrid Tech and Industry Strategy Shape Development

The 600HP Toyota engine is not just about headline power figures.

It has been designed from the outset to support hybrid tech and meet tightening emissions regulations.

Engineers are working to pair it with electric components to maintain strong performance while reducing carbon output.

This development is part of a wider collaboration between Toyota, Mazda, and Subaru to extend the life of combustion engines.

Toyota

Together, the brands are exploring alternative fuels like synthetic gasoline, liquid hydrogen, and biofuels.

Toyota’s new four-cylinder family will serve as a testbed for these technologies.

Chairman Akio Toyoda has repeatedly stated that he does not expect electric vehicles to completely take over the market.

He believes the future of transportation will involve a mix of propulsion systems.

Toyota

Toyota’s commitment to combustion innovation aligns with that outlook, and the 600HP engine exemplifies this approach.

Future Gazoo Racing models are likely to feature this powertrain.

Whether in a next-generation GR86, a refreshed Supra, or an entirely new nameplate, the G20E engine appears to be a core part of Toyota’s performance roadmap.

The 600HP Toyota engine signals Toyota’s ongoing investment in performance engineering, hybrid tech, and adaptable powertrain solutions.

As Gazoo Racing prepares to evolve its lineup, this engine could become the defining link between combustion heritage and future-focused innovation.
