General Motors has unveiled a concept car that previews the next-gen Chevrolet Corvette.

GM just launched a new design studio in the UK, and this is the studio’s debut design.

We can safely say they nailed it the first time around.

Unfortunately, there is some bad news, too.

The next-gen Chevrolet Corvette (could) look like this

General Motors just opened a new design studio in the UK town of Leamington Spa with 35 employees.

In order to properly launch the studio, GM asked them to design the next-generation Corvette, and this is what it looks like.

The gigantic diffusers stand out, and the car looks super low and extra wide.

We can also note that, based on this concept, Chevrolet is apparently going to stick to the mid-engined design introduced with the C8.

The huge catch is this is just a concept, and Julian Thomson, the director of the studio, said quite clearly that production isn’t in the plans.

Having said that, Chevrolet is unlikely to kill off the Corvette brand, and sooner or later the company will have to replace the C8 – the current-gen Corvette – with something else.

Maybe, with a bit of luck, it’ll look like this.

What we can expect from the next Corvette

When it was first launched, about five years ago, the Corvette C8 opened a new chapter for Chevy.

It was the first mid-engined Corvette in history, which is kind of a big deal and a significant change for a car that had already been around for seven decades and seven generations.

Then Chevy raised the bar again and defied conventions by launching the first hybrid Corvette.

After that, Chevy unveiled the ZR1, the fastest Corvette ever made.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has already been touted to be faster than its Lamborghini and McLaren competitors.

For the next one, we can expect the same… but more of it.

It’ll still be powered by internal combustion, almost certainly, but there’ll be a hybrid as well.

Chevy has no plans to replace the C8 yet, but the design is now five years old, so we can expect a new one by the end of the decade.

Well, we hope so, anyway.
