How a five-year passion project brought an Alfa Romeo icon back to life
Alfa Romeo never revived the Tipo 33 themselves, so David Hutchinson took it upon himself to make it happen.
Working with UK-based coachbuilder PPW, Hutchinson spent five years crafting the R33, and what they created is breathtaking: a lightweight, hand-formed aluminium machine powered by a dry-sump Ferrari-Maserati 4.2L V8 producing around 400 horsepower.
It’s old-school to the core.
There’s no ABS. No traction control. No power steering.
Just a six-speed manual, throttle bodies, and a chassis that mirrors the original Tipo 33’s proportions – built from scratch using modern materials.
This isn’t a mod-job.
The R33 isn’t built on top of another car – it’s been engineered entirely from scratch to feel like a vintage racer you can drive on the road.
Add in the butterfly doors, that Alfa Rosso Corsa paint, and you’ve got something that doesn’t just turn heads – it stops people in their tracks.
Only 33 of these will ever exist.
Pricing starts at around $723,000 ( £540,000) plus taxes, and the first example will make its public debut at the PH Annual Service.
