If you know how to drive manually, there’s a good chance someone might have asked you to explain how it works.

Explaining it might seem like a simple task but it can get very complicated when you are teaching them how to drive stick, especially if they are a new driver.

However, here is a quick way for you to learn how to do it without watching 15-20 minute long how-to videos.

Learning how to drive stick-shift can be quite challenging, but this video explainer from Wyatt Knox at the Team O’Neil Rally School is a quick way to learn.

Without wasting any time, Knox goes straight into what we need to know starting with how a manual transmission works.

Team O’Neil

In America, almost everyone drives an automatic while the rest of the world is used to driving a manual.

Hence, new drivers need to learn how to use their left leg to depress the clutch.

Knox also points out that they need to understand its relation to shifting gears.

After that, he goes straight into how to get the car moving by releasing the clutch.

After that, he combines using the gas pedal for faster starts and how to shift gears on the move.

We have seen how automatic drivers are baffled at how a manual ‘stick shift’ works, so it might be a bit overwhelming at first.

However, if you are a fast learner you can learn all of this in five minutes.

At least that’s how long it took for Knox to explain it.

So if anyone asks you to teach them how to drive stick or manual, just show them the video above.
