Timing your purchase around dealership cycles can make a bigger difference than most buyers realize.

From quiet weekdays to end-of-month quotas and year-end clearances, certain days and months offer much better deals.

Here’s when to shop if you’re aiming to save big on your next ride.

Best time to buy a car is when the dealership is quiet

According to car experts and dealerships alike, the best days to buy a new car are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Early in the week, dealerships are generally quieter, meaning salespeople have more time to work with you one-on-one.

With fewer customers around, you’ll also face less competition, which gives you greater room to negotiate on price, options, and financing terms.

Visiting during the early hours of the day can further boost your chances of scoring a great deal, as sales staff are less busy and more focused.

Timing also matters on a monthly and even yearly scale.

The final few days of the month are when dealerships are most motivated to hit their sales quotas.

That pressure often translates into better deals and bigger discounts for buyers who show up ready to close.

Combine that with a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday visit, and your chance of scoring the cheapest car possible increases.

Wait for end-of-year promotions to score the cheapest price

But what’s even more effective is pairing the right days with the right months.

October, November, and December are widely considered the best time to buy a car.

This is when dealerships are trying to clear out old inventory to make room for next year’s models, and year-end sales targets add another layer of urgency.

The combination of end-of-year promotions and end-of-month quotas can lead to some of the cheapest prices for cars you can find.

While timing is definitely important, it doesn’t hurt to brush up on the perfect way to respond to common car dealership questions.

In addition, you should also look out for secret stickers that are present in many car dealerships, as those can potentially save you a lot of money as well.

Of course, if there’s a good time to grab the cheapest car, the opposite is also true.

Saturdays are typically the worst time to buy, as dealerships are packed and salespeople are stretched thin.

This means you’re unlikely to get the focused attention or bargaining leverage you might enjoy earlier in the week.

And while tariff-related price hikes have been a concern in recent years, most new vehicles on lots today were built before any changes took full effect.

That means prices, for now, remain relatively stable.

However, as time goes by, tariffs will inevitably make car prices more expensive, so maybe it’s best not to wait too long.
