The McLaren 720S Spider is an important car for the brand.

This is because the 720S Spider was the first convertible supercar McLaren built while flying solo.

This one has seen some miles, but it looks as gorgeous as ever.

It is currently available from SBX Cars.

Why the McLaren 720S Spider is largely considered the brand’s first supercar

The 720S marked the beginning of a new era for McLaren, and the 720S Spider was the first supercar with no roof they ever built.

In 2011, after leaving Mercedes, McLaren unveiled the 12C, followed by the 650S and the 540S/570S.

But McLaren didn’t call those cars ‘supercars’, because they were marketed as ‘sports cars’, with the 720S being the company’s first supercar.

With the 720S, McLaren took on its rival with a V8-powered convertible beauty.

The 720S is a modern-day supercar but it was still conceived in an era when automakers would name their cars for their technical specs.

This is because the 720S is powered by a 4.0 liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine, sending 720PS (710HP) to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.

Bought, owned and loved

It’s been said this before but it’s worth repeating.

In a world where everybody seems to buy gorgeous cars to *not* drive them, it’s always nice to see a fast, exciting car with some miles on the clock.

This one, a 2022 model registered in the state of Washington, comes with 5,794 miles (9,324km) on the odometer.

And, as you can see, it didn’t affect the car at all, which was fully serviced in November 2022 and still looks tremendous with its Satin black finish with matching black interior with a splash of yellow.

The auction is already live on SBX Cars, and it is scheduled to end on February 18.
