This Swedish high-end, high-performance carmaker is known for exclusivity, but even by its standards, the rarest Koenigsegg model – the Koenigsegg CCGT is rare.

The carmaker was established in 1994 with plans to create a ‘world-class’ sports car.

It launched its first street-legal production car – the CC8S – in 2002.

And in 2003, it began work on its rarest car to date: the one-of-one Koenigsegg CCGT.

The Swedish brand has made some incredible, world-record-breaking cars over the years, including the Regera and the 1,100HP Gemera.

However, while all Koenigsegg cars are truly special, only one can be the rarest, and that is the 2007 Koenigsegg CCGT.

Based on its CC model range, the CCGT was a race car created to compete in the FIA GT Championship.

The hypercar was built to conform to the ACO and FIA regulations for the GT1 Class.

It was debuted at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, but it actually went into development a few years earlier in 2003.

The CCGT was fitted with the same V8 engine unit from the CCX but had its superchargers removed and its capacity increased to 5.0 liters.

The CCGT had more than 600kg of downforce and racing-restricted horsepower of 600HP.

However, the CCGT wasn’t meant to be the rarest.

Just weeks after completing shakedown runs of the CCGT, the ACO and FIA changed the regulations of the GT1 Class.

The new rules meant that carbon monocoques – like those on the CCGT – were no longer permitted, and minimum production numbers went from 20 cars across several years to 350 cars per year.

The new rules brought about a swift and premature end to the CCGT’s racing dreams.

Although the car didn’t make it onto the race track, that’s not to say it wasn’t an impressive build.

The one-off vehicle not only looks stunning, but as it was specially designed to hit the track, you can guarantee that it would be a whole lot of fun to drive.

Of course, not many folks have had that privilege, given that there was only one CCGT ever made.

However, the marque says those who were lucky enough to hop behind the wheel say ‘it handles like a dream, and that it would have been very competitive’.

After having its dreams of racing glory dashed, the CCGT ended up with shareholder Bård Eker, who kept it tucked away inside a temperature-controlled garage, only taking it out a couple of times a year.

But in 2023, the rarest Koenigsegg was sold at Bonhams’ Goodwood Festival of Speed for around $4.3 million (£3.3 million).

The new owner was never revealed, but because the car had been so well kept by Eker in the previous years, the lucky buyer was basically getting a brand-new one-of-one Koenigsegg.
