The new Porsche Cayenne EV is flexing its muscles with some serious EV performance, showing off its impressive towing capacity and record speed.
The electric SUV not only hauled a 100-year-old Lagonda to the start line, it also clocked a record time at Shelsley Walsh on its very first run.
This was no lightweight demo either, with Porsche confirming the prototype ran a near-production powertrain and standard summer tires.
It’s a strong statement from Porsche that electrification doesn’t mean compromise.

Porsche Cayenne EV sets fastest SUV record
The Cayenne EV prototype was driven by Porsche Formula E development driver Gabriela Jílková, who managed to climb the 1,000-yard course in 31.28 seconds.
That result officially beat the previous SUV record and showed how far EV performance has progressed in large SUVs.
Porsche also recorded a 1.94-second time over the first 60 yards, which is on par with what single-seater race cars achieve.
Towing capacity was tested in a separate run, when Richard Hammond used the Cayenne EV to pull his 100-year-old Lagonda to the event.
Porsche confirmed the EV matches the combustion Cayenne’s 7,716-pound limit.
That puts its towing capacity ahead of most electric rivals, including the Mercedes G580 and BMW iX.
Few other electric SUVs combine towing capacity with this kind of record speed and acceleration.
Porsche has not revealed exact output figures, but Hammond hinted the Cayenne EV would exceed the 729 horsepower found in the current Turbo E-Hybrid.
Four-figure output seems likely. Based on early numbers, the Cayenne EV is shaping up to offer true EV performance that rivals the fastest petrol-powered SUVs on the road today.
Design updates and powertrain outlook
The Porsche Cayenne EV prototype also previewed a more practical and performance-focused shape.
The body is longer, wider, and lower than the current Cayenne, with sharp lines and a functional SUV profile.
The vehicle sits on Porsche’s Active Ride suspension, which balances comfort and control, and automatically lifts when doors open.
A large front trunk is accessed by swiping a hand across the Porsche badge, offering more usable space.
Interior details are still limited, but Porsche says cabin volume will increase compared to previous Cayenne models.
More importantly, the platform appears built from the ground up for both practicality and EV performance.
The vehicle’s low center of gravity and instant torque delivery help explain how it achieved record speed on a course that punishes poor balance and delayed throttle response.
Executives have said hybrid and combustion Cayenne models will remain on sale for years.
Still, the early results show that the Porsche Cayenne EV has already set a new benchmark.
It combines legitimate towing capacity with record speed and proven EV performance, all wrapped in a near-final package that looks ready for production.
The full reveal is expected in 2026. If this prototype is any indication, the Porsche Cayenne EV will not just join the lineup. It will lead it.
