Nissan retired its most iconic sports car just a few weeks ago and, at first, it looked like it wasn’t going to be replaced.

But the Japanese brand has a new CEO now, and his idea is a bit different.

We’re certainly glad to hear that.

A new GT-R is coming

Nissan, the world-famous Japanese car manufacturer, isn’t doing as well as it once was.

The company recently replaced its CEO, probably because, among other reasons, of the awkward situation with the proposed, and failed, merger with Honda.

Either way, there’s a new boss now, and he has a plan.

In the space of a few weeks, the CEO announced 13 new models, including a totally redesigned Leaf based on the Ariya and, crucially, a new GT-R.

Nissan discontinued the GT-R after a long and decorated career, and everyone assumed that would be the end of it.

But, fortunately, that’s not the case.

What the new Nissan GT-R could look like

Nissan already said it was going to replace the old GT-R with a new electric model years ago, but that never materialized.

We don’t know whether the new one will indeed be electric, but it is very likely.

With a bit of luck, the new GT-R will be inspired by the Hyper Force, above, a concept car that produces over 1,300HP.

With even more luck, it will use some form of internal combustion along with its electric powertrain.

We don’t know, but we do know it’s on Nissan’s Bingo card and that’s good enough for us.

Speaking at the launch event for the aforementioned 13 new cars, Ivan Espinosa, the newly-appointed Nissan CEO, said a new GT-R will come.

“It’s in our DNA. I can’t tell you when or how, but the GT-R name will exist in the future,” he said.

Music to our ears.
