In the battle against the ever-present Ford F-150 Lightning and the surprising Hummer EV, the Tesla Cybertruck sales in 2025 are faltering, and it’s an eye-opening revelation for the leading electric vehicle brand.

The Cybertruck has proved to be a divisive pickup; people either love the futuristic car and its wicked gizmos or find the metallic boxy look a bit too farfetched for their liking.

But after being out for nearly two years, the electric pickup is now slipping down the charts.

Tesla Cybertruck sales are plummeting, and there are a number of reasons why.

Tesla Cybertruck sales continue to slip as the pickup falls down the pecking order in 2025

Having once been slated as the car of the future, the Tesla Cybertruck sales are continuing to drop as the magic has seemingly worn off.

The electric vehicle giants have taken note of the unfortunate Tesla Cybertruck sales as of late, slipping in offers to get more people to buy the sci-fi pickups from the dealership.

But the brand has been very quiet on speaking about the pickup publicly, and it seems that it’s for good reason, as sales have continued to fall short at the hands of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Hummer EV.

According to new data by TechCrunch, the second quarter of 2025 saw the Tesla Cybertruck sales total 4,306 units, which now sees it fall to third place in the pickup rankings.

The GMC Hummer EV appears to be the beneficiary here, selling more in Q2 of 2025 (4,508than it did in the entirety of its launch year in 2023 (3,244).

Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 Lightning has proven to be an immovable force at 5,842 sales, even though this is the model’s worst-performing quarterly total in over a year.

With Tesla Cybertruck sales slipping, it could even fall behind the Chevy Silverado, which has gained momentum in 2025.

Why are Cybertruck sales falling?

However, the company might be fighting a losing battle as many low-mileage Cybertrucks are now appearing on second-hand platforms after the one-year no-sell-on clause has expired.

Many owners who have had a year on the Tesla pickup have now decided to trade it in and opt for something new

A lot of people looking to get one of the trucks can now buy a cheap, low-mileage, second-hand vehicle instead of paying the premium of a brand-new one.

But not all is lost.

Tesla is already taking its learnings to the lab and considering making a smaller pickup to bridge the gap between its sporty sedans and the iron giant.

Drivers have listed a number of improvements that the Cybertruck could likely make for future instalments of the series, where it may well be able to be the force it was once deemed to be.

But for now, it’s a Ford world and we’re all driving in it.
