This is the most powerful Mustang ever made, so the result is perhaps hardly surprising.

The GTD went around the ‘Ring in just 06:57.685, which makes it faster than most supercars.

Among others, it’s faster than several iterations of the Porsche 911, the Ferrari 296 GTB and even the Rimac Nevera.

How the Ford Mustang GTD became the fastest American car around the ‘Ring’

The Ford Mustang GTD is the most powerful Mustang ever built, by a significant margin.

The 5.2-liter V8 that powers it puts out 800 horsepower, and it is paired to a dual-clutch gearbox.

It is also relatively lightweight, because Ford made extensive use of carbon fiber to build this car.

Mustangs are generally designed to provide fun, power and noise without costing much.

That doesn’t really apply the Mustang GTD, though.

This is a sophisticated car, and the price tag reflects that.

The GTD has an MSRP north of $300,000, which is astonishing for a Mustang.

Why so many automakers care about Nürburgring records so much

For the last 20-odd years, automakers have used the Nordschleife, the famed north section of the Nürburgring as a testbed for their cars.

They test their cars around it, but they also use it set records.

This part, let’s face it, is a bit of a flex, a marketing stunt.

But it works because A, people talk about it, and B, it’s a reliable way of assessing whether your vehicle is better than the cars made by your market rivals.

That’s why car companies take it seriously.

Just about any and every manufacturer we can think of set a record at some point, from legacy automaker such as Lotus or Porsche, to a British tuner that’s modified a Porsche 911 to make it faster than the factory model.
