Set to launch in 2030, the new EV will use a platform shared with other brands.

But that’s not the main point here.

The key takeaway is that Lambo says the new EV will produce up to 2,000 horsepower.

The next Lamborghini EV will have 2,000 horsepower

Oliver Blume, CEO of both Porsche and VW Group, shared some interesting news at the annual VW Group Conference.

Blume said the the first electric Lamborghini will be built using a shared platform.

VW Group controls several brands that could benefit from this, from Audi to Bentley and perhaps even Porsche.

Blume further added that this EV platform is theoretically capable of handling up to 2,000 horsepower.

This is interesting because the first electric Lamborghini, the Lanzador, will be here in 2029 with a power output ranging between 1,300 and 1,400 horsepower.

This presumably means the second Lamborghini EV will be even more powerful than that, potentially changing the course of the brand.

This, in a way, is nothing new

Big car groups have always shared platforms and engines across different models and brands.

It’s the oldest cost-cutting trick in the book, and everybody’s fine with it mostly because no one notices.

Most people had no idea the first-gen Porsche Panamera, Bentley Flying Spur and Bentley Continental GT were built on the same platform as the Audi A8 and the long-forgotten VW Phaeton (pictured below).

More recently, we’ve got the Pininfarina Battista, an Italian hypercar that’s virtually identical to the Rimac Nevera under the surface.

Another example is worth mentioning is Ford’s Coyote V8, which you can find under the hood of both the $30,000+ Ford Mustang and the $2 million De Tomaso P72.
