Ford Mustangs are some of the most powerful American sports cars

It will come as no surprise to learn that Ford Mustangs are some of the most powerful American sports cars.

The 2020 Shelby GT500 S550 is one of them, thanks to its mighty 5.2-liter supercharged V8 making 760hp.

One to watch is the upcoming Mustang GTD, turning the muscle car into a full-on supercar.

Ford

The Mustang packs in a 5.2-liter supercharged V8, producing 815hp and 664lb-ft of torque with a 202mph top speed.

The 2024 Shelby Mustang Super Snake is another mighty Mustang, with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 making 825hp.

Not to be outdone, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon beats all of those Mustangs.

It has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making 840hp.

Shelby

Ahead of it is the 2022 Shelby GT500KR, with its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 making 900hp and 750lb-ft of torque.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was the car that said farewell to the Challenger muscle car.

It had the power to match, too, with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making a huge 1,025hp.

Chevrolet, SSC, and Hennessey are the American power kings

Ahead of all of these, though, are cars from Chevrolet, Hennessey, and SSC.

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 C8 is an absolute monster, thanks to its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8.

That powertrain gives the car 1,064hp and 828lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet

Debuting in 2010 was the Hennessey Venom GT, based on a Lotus Elise chassis.

It had a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 1,124hp and 1,155lb-ft of torque under the hood.

The SSC Tuatara is next up, the successor to the famous Ultimate Aero.

The Tuatara made headlines in 2020 when it broke the 316mph barrier, thanks to the 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8.

This engine is good enough for 1,750hp and 1,280lb-ft of torque.

Hennessey

Finally, we have the mighty Hennessey Venom F5 with its huge 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8.

That V8 engine makes 1,817hp and 1,193lb-ft of torque.

These are all-American monsters with tons of horsepower, and are the best way to celebrate the 4th of July.
