Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of creative car-based inventions.

But making a child’s bed into a mini speed demon is in a league of its own.

This thing may look like a kiddie car, but it’s definitely not child’s play.

Creating a mini Corvette out of a child’s bed

As nice as it is to have a real car, creating a replica can be very rewarding.

While many think of hitting a nail into a wall when they think of DIY projects, the hobby can take many forms.

You may recall the guy who modified a bed frame into a vehicle, so that he could drive out for his morning coffee without having to get up.

And what about the 1968 Volkswagen Beetle was given a new lease of life when it was turned into a tank?

Or the Cybertruck constructed from trash?

All of this is to say, there are a lot of imaginative people out there who have the skills to bring their wildest ideas to life.

Gilbert, a Texan auto-technician, is one such person.

His creation is the ‘Poorvette’.

And no, that’s not a typo.

Speaking to Supercar Blondie, he explained the name choice.

“Why did I name it the Poorvette?

“Well, that’s simple. It’s basically the poor man’s Vette.

“When you can’t buy an actual Corvette, you build your own.”

Gilbert took the engine from a Honda CBR600 F4 bike, which explained why it was so loud.

Although he likened it to a go-kart, this build was way cooler than that.

It even had a fully decorated interior!

How fast can the ‘Poorvette’ go?

There are many questions that spring to mind when you see this pint-sized Corvette.

But one that undoubtedly popped up was ‘How fast can it go?’

The truth is, Gilbert doesn’t have an exact figure.

“I always answer ‘It’s probably faster than I’m wanting to go in it,’” he said.

“I built it to be able to do burnouts, donuts, and drifting, and it’s proven it can handle that quite well.

“Maybe some day I’ll take it to a eight mile drag strip to get a little taste of what it’s capable of.”

If it’s anything like the Barbie Corvette-turned-racer, then we definitely want to see that happen.

For Gilbert, this car was a DIY project, and he doesn’t intend to hold onto it forever.

“To me, this is just a hobby, I build these for fun,” he admitted.

“But I do sell these off once I’ve had my fun and I’m ready to move on to the next build.”

Whoever takes ownership of this Poorvette will be one lucky driver.
