The owner of a Dodge Charger Daytona EV in Texas has revealed how much he spent after taking his new car to a charging station for the first time.

In a clip shared on YouTube, the Dodge owner, named Randall, explained that he had charged his car to around 80 percent.

But after a day of driving that had dropped to around 30 percent.

So, he headed to his nearest charging station – and here’s what he learned about how much it cost and how long it took.

Charging the Dodge Charger Daytona EV

Automaker Dodge launched the world’s first-ever EV muscle car last year – marking a pretty big departure from the usual Dodge vehicles, but the carmaker included a feature that makes it sound almost exactly like a V8.

The first deliveries of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV began landing at dealerships at the beginning of this year – and one owner has already managed to total theirs.

Thankfully, Randall – who runs the Randall Mod FX YouTube channel – has had better luck.

He recently shared a clip of his first encounter with a charging station in his new EV and what he learned along the way.

Randall headed out to the station after his battery dropped to around 30 percent.

Upon arrival, he discovered that to ‘fast charge’ his EV back to 100 percent, he’d need to leave it on charge for around an hour – but Randall explained that he didn’t have time for that.

Here’s how much he paid and how many miles he got

The process of plugging the Dodge Charger Daytona EV was pretty straightforward – even for someone who had never visited one before, like Randall.

After putting his credit card into the charger, Randall opened up the charging point and explained that the vehicle had two sockets – one for normal charging and one for fast charging.

The charging station he visited cost 63 cents per mile.

Randall was able to double his battery life – to 64 percent – in a little under 16 minutes at a total cost of $23.

“We’re sitting at about 60 percent of charge – so it looks like we’re going to have about 155 miles,” he explained in the clip.

“So we went from about 80 miles of range to 155 miles of range for about 20 bucks.”

He went on to say that he had recently used a free changer, which took longer – around half an hour to go from 40 percent to 80 percent – explaining that if you want to benefit from a faster charger then you need to expect to pay a bit more.
