A video recently released by the automaker itself shows a Tesla Semi driving 500 miles fully loaded on one charge, creating a lot of buzz about how it could be the future of freight travel.

What long-distance freighters need is a reliable truck that will last for a long time, and an extended distance without needing to refuel or recharge.

Rarely have truckers looked to EVs for their reliable trucks, but this video is doing a lot to convince people that the Tesla Semi EV might be the future of freight travel.

Some skeptics were not impressed by the video, though, arguing that the world isn’t yet ready for fully electric fleets of trucks.

The Tesla Semi: The future of freight travel?

The Tesla Semi has recently hit the highways in America. More and more of the semi-truck EVs have been spotted hauling loads across the country.

Tesla recently released the video above, showing a timelapse of a man fully loading a Tesla Semi. And then driving 500 miles across America. On just one charge.

The video was shared in popular reddit forum r/Truckers, and heavily discussed by fans and dissenters alike.

“I’ll check back in 20 years and see how things have changed,” one skeptic said. Clearly they think we’re not quite at the stage we need to be for EV semi-trucks to be viable.

Most of the comments on the video, though, were excited about the possibilities that the Tesla Semi brought with it.

“While I am not a Tesla fan, this is the type of truck needed to upend the industry and bring trucks into the 21st century,” one commenter said.

“I have to admit they sure are a lot more aero dynamic than the diesel versions I drive,” said another, congratulating Tesla on its success.

The video shows the driver making one stop on his 500 mile journey – to go to the bathroom.

A lot of dissenters have been put off EVs. It seems they’re worried that a short battery capacity can hobble people on long cross-country drives.

But Tesla has completely changed the future of freight travel by showing people how far you can truly go using electric. And not worry about having too heavy a load.

A lot of the commenters were just as impressed with the driver himself. In fact, they were surprised that on a 500-mile trip, he only took a single bathroom break.

“Round of applause for this guy’s bladder, too,” one commenter joked.

Forget the Tesla semi – this guy’s bladder is the real future of freight travel!
