This Tesla Model 3 EV owner broke down the total cost of charging his car with an at-home charger and found a shocking comparison when it comes to the price of gas.

The owner clearly is happy with his Model 3 and can certainly see all the dollars that he’s saved, because he paid initially to charge his EV at home.

People could be put off by the initial price of an at-home charger, but this YouTuber wanted to break down the monthly cost to show people how a Tesla can be a real money-saver.

The price of Tesla charging in comparison to local fuel costs was shocking for the YouTuber, and there was absolutely no doubt in his mind that he’d made the right decision.

This YouTuber has a Tesla Model 3 that he’s very proud of. But he wanted to prove once and for all that he made a good decision when it came to paying for EV charging.

Handily for the YouTuber, Tesla keeps track of all the charging data for his EV over a 31-day period. So he could know both how much he saved, and compare it to gas prices in his local area.

FrunkToTrunk posted a YouTube short saying that he drove around 1,100 miles every month, and he’d spent $98 on at-home charging.

However, the initial cost of the installation of an at-home charger was $420. But it was a one-off upfront fee, and once it was installed, he started saving money.

In comparison, the local gas prices in his area would cost him $225 for 1,100 miles over a 31-day period.

And that meant he’ saved himself a good chunk of change. Plus, he would’ve earned back the cost of his home charging installation within a few months.

It just goes to show that sometimes a large upfront spend will save you a lot of money in the long run, as well as the fact that the future is clearly electric.
