Many concerns have been raised about the life spans of the batteries powering Teslas.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Shaw wanted to provide clarity on the topic.

Ryan Shaw maintained that Teslas are much friendlier on the wallet than many would believe.

“The truth of the matter is, whilst these batteries can be expensive when they do need replacing,” he said.

“The odds of ever having to do that are actually much further in your favor.”

Tesla’s aim is for the battery packs to outlast their own vehicles, with those inside Model 3 and Model Y retaining 85 percent of their original capacity after 200,000 miles.

With the company’s own research finding that the average ICE vehicle was scrapped after 200,000 miles, this would suggest that EVs do better overall on longevity.

When there are stories of Tesla owners still getting by with their original battery pack over 300,000 miles, this seems all the more credible.

Another point in favor of EVs is not having to do oil changes.

Shaw estimated that the average EV owner would save $3,000 on this expense alone over the course of a car’s life.

There’s also the fact that batteries are set to be cheaper in a few years’ time – and become more efficient.

This fast-developing technology is only getting better and better, and the benefits are growing alongside that growth.
