Why is Land Rover called Land Rover?

The company gets its name because of another British car company – Rover.

Land Rover’s founders were high up in the Rover organisation.

When they released the first Land Rover in 1948, it was built to be a rugged, off-road vehicle.

So they added ‘Land’ in front of ‘Rover’ and the name was born, although the name wouldn’t become its own brand until 1978.

What year did the company start making cars?

As mentioned above, the company first started making cars in 1948.

Where are they built?

Quite a few places, actually.

The Land Rover plant in Solihull, Birmingham, has been the brand’s home ever since its inception.

The brand also build other models in Halewood (Merseyside, England), Brazil, India, China and Slovakia.

How many cars are built per year?

A lot, in short.

The company produce, on average, around 400,000 cars per year.

In 2019, the Evoque, the Range Rover Sport and Discovery Sport were each responsible for over 80,000 sales.

Which notable car models does the company make?

At the time of counting, seven.

There’s the Discovery Sport and the Evoque, which tend to get grouped together.

On the more luxurious end of the scale, you get the Velar, the Range Rover Sport and the marquee Range Rover.

At the more practical end of that same scale, there’s the Discovery, as well as the legendary Defender.

What is the most expensive Land Rover?

To perhaps nobody’s surprise, the most expensive car in the range is the Range Rover.

More specifically, it’s the SVAutobiography Range Rover, which can cost you north of $230,000.

That might seem a lot, but it’s a lot of car.

What is the cheapest Land Rover?

This answer will actually surprise you.

It’s possible to buy a Discovery Sport for under $40,000, and a base model Evoque for around $1,200 more.

However, this isn’t advisable from a resale point of view – because these are the models without four wheel-drive and manual gearboxes.

What is the fastest Land Rover?

Speed isn’t exactly the top priority for the British brand.

However, they have shown that they are capable of producing speed when the spirit moves them.

In 2015, the company released the Range Rover Sport SVR.

The supercharged 5.0-liter V8 produced 542bhp – recently upgraded to now make 567bhp – and that resulted in a top speed of 174mph.

Talk about putting the ‘Sport’ in a Sports Utility Vehicle.

There you have it – your Supercar Blondie guide to all things Land Rover.
