The British company produces some genuinely incredible performance cars, and is, of course, now a Formula 1 team and set to return to Le Mans, as we can see in the above video.

With so much history and outreach, it’s essential to tell the story of the British manufacturer.

These are your most Googled questions on Aston Martin, answered by Supercar Blondie.

Why is the company called Aston Martin?

The company takes its name from co-founder Lionel Martin and the Aston Hill race course in Buckinghamshire, England.

Martin raced at the circuit and took several victories at the venue.

Initially, the company was called Bamford & Martin Ltd., with Robert Bamford as the other founder. But this changed after Martin won at Aston Hill.

David Brown took over the company in 1947.

What year did the company start making cars?

Founded in 1913, Aston produced its first car in 1914.

Long before the supercars, the initial production was a very basic automobile. Nicknamed ‘Coal Scuttle,’ it appeared just before the outbreak of World War I.

‘Coal Scuttle’ included a reworked Coventry Simplex engine powering a functional body with a bespoke chassis built by Martin and Bamford.

The war stopped further development, but they would pick up again in 1919.

Where are Aston Martins built?

Aston Martin has built its sports cars and grand tourers in Gaydon, U.K., for decades, and each one is hand-built.

Gaydon has been the hub of the British company since the 1990s, following its use as an RAF base and as a factory for British Leyland.

The DBX707 SUV range, meanwhile, comes from St Athan in Wales.

In 1991, Ford’s backing helped Aston Martin build its new headquarters in Gaydon, where they’ve been ever since.

How many are built per year?

Despite the hand-crafted nature of its cars, Aston Martin is able to build plenty of vehicles each year.

In the 1970s and 1980s, that number stood at around 200 cars every 12 months.

By 2007, Aston made over 7,000 cars per year.

At the end of 2024, however, the company missed its target of 7,000 vehicles but still to produced 6,000 by the end of the year.

What notable car models does Aston Martin make?

The manufacturer has several notable models in its current range.

The company recently took the covers off the Valhalla, its first hybrid supercar with a twin-turbocharged V8.

Aston also produces the DBX707, its SUV offering and one of the most powerful all-wheel-drive cars money can buy.

The Vantage is always popular, and the new DB12 is one of the finest modern Astons ever.

Of course, there is also the Valkyrie hypercar, which will race at Le Mans in 2025, and its AMR25 F1 car.

Which is the most expensive Aston Martin?

By far and away, the most expensive current model in the British manufacturer’s range is the Valkyrie.

The Adrian Newey-designed hypercar’s starting price of $3 million makes it one of the world’s most expensive production cars as of 2025.

Which is the cheapest Aston Martin?

And at the other end of the scale, there’s the Vantage.

While not cheap compared to an old Ford F-150, the Vantage is cheaper than the Valkyrie at just over $194,000.

However, that is still quite a price tag.

The Vantage is even cheaper than the DBX, which currently has a starting price of over $200,000.

What is the fastest Aston Martin?

The outright fastest Aston, is easily the Valkyrie with its 250MPH top speed.

The One-77 is next up which tops out at 220MPH.

The fastest series production Aston, however, is the Vanquish.

Its 5.2-liter 835HP V12 powers the car to a top speed of 214MPH.

Which Aston Martin concept car should you know about?

Two of the very best Aston Martin concepts are the Bulldog and the Vanquish Vision.

And don’t forget the Bulldog was built to reach 237MPH, but never quite made it.

However, a recent restoration did see it crack the 200MPH barrier.

Classic Motor Cars

The Vanquish Vision, meanwhile, was a 2019 concept for a future mid-engine supercar.

Sadly, the company canceled it in 2023.

And all we have left are the sleek renders of the proposed supercar.
