On today’s episode of Things That Actually Happened, we have a soccer player who once received a hefty fine from his team for driving a Mercedes G-Class to his practice session instead of an Audi.

This might be one of the most odd things to get a fine for, but it was all for good reason.

The athlete in question was Kingsley Coman, who plays as a winger for Bayern Munich and has other big names in past contracts, including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

On one fine day three years ago, Coman decided to head to practice in his personal vehicle, and things turned for worse.

Naturally, the first question that you might have is, what car was he driving?

It was a G-Wagen, one of the most popular Mercedes G-Class names ever.

Now, we don’t blame him for choosing the Mercedes because let’s be fair — it’s an excellent vehicle.

The soccer player, however, had obligations.

You see, his team — Bayern Munich — had Audi as one of their official (and huge) sponsors.

Hence, he was supposed to be driving an Audi there — preferably one of the newer Q6 e-Tron SUVs.

That didn’t go well, and the team fined him €50,000 (approximately $55,000 at today’s exchange rates).

As unusual as it may sound, it’s all there in black and white.

Although this incident is not that similar, it reminds us of the billionaire who was cited while driving a C8 Corvette on his own island.

Audi

The team’s sponsorship agreement with Audi requires all Bayern Munich players to drive an Audi whenever they go to business appointments or any meetings associated with the team.

As it turns out, the official training grounds also fall in that category, hence the fine.

Choosing the Mercedes G-Wagen wouldn’t have landed him in trouble elsewhere, but things are how they are.

It wasn’t the first time the soccer player was in a situation like this, either.

Kingsley Coman

A year before this incident, Coman once drove a McLaren 570S Spider to practice.

Obviously, he eventually had to issue a public apology and commit to being part of an autograph session with Audi.

Violating partnership agreements can land anyone in trouble, and soccer stars certainly aren’t an exception.

Neither are their choices too bad if you look at it.

Kingsley Coman’s Mercedes G-Class and McLaren are among the finest cars ever, but driving an Audi is also a ‘work thing’ for him.
