A Tesla Model 3 owner has revealed the shocking difference between the charging cost of a Tesla Model 3 after 75,000 miles versus a gas-powered car.

He compared what it would’ve cost him if he had traveled the same distance in a BMW 3 Series on fossil fuel.

Most Tesla owners bought their EV to avoid buying gas and save money, as well as the obvious environmental perks.

However, it seems many people have underestimated just how much money these EV cars save.

Other than being convenient to charge at home rather than driving to a gas station, these EV cars save a lot of money in the long run.

Andy Slye, who owns a Tesla Model 3, shared a video on his YouTube channel breaking down the cost of charging his car after 75,000 miles.

The difference was shocking, to say the least.

Just to give you a brief idea, recently another Tesla Model 3 owner revealed that it cost them $375 for 16,000 miles.

Now, imagine the charging cost for 75,000 miles and what gas could cost for a normal car with that kind of mileage.

After 75,368 miles, Slye’s Tesla Model 3 consumed 18,656kWh of electricity.

Total cost

After accounting for the electricity lost during charging and idling, the total power came out to about 20,728kWh.

Slye has also spent only $54 on Tesla supercharging.

After calculating the per-kWh charge in his town and adding the supercharging cost, the total came out to be $1,404.

Then, he compared that to a popular Tesla competitor from the same year — a 2018 BMW 320i.

For the same amount of miles, it would have cost him $9,353 if he had a gas-powered BMW 3 Series car.

In the end, he reckons he saved around $8000 on his fuel cost over three years.

What’s more, since he plans to keep the car for at least 10 years, his savings could end up being close to $25,000.

Slye plans to use these savings and buy a solar roof for his house, allowing him to charge his Tesla Model 3 for free.

It seems that Elon Musk’s ‘master plan’ for the future of Tesla is finally coming together.
