Secret Service agent reveals what happens to US Presidents’ Cadillac ‘The Beast’ after eight years

Jay Leno had the chance to take a closer look at Cadillac One – also known as The Beast – the armored limo that every US President uses.

Leno got the chance to learn more about the car thanks to some pretty juice details revealed by two Secret Service agents.

For obvious security reasons, most of the info about the car is classified, but the fate of the car after it’s taken out of service isn’t.

And it’s not what you expect.

After retiring from his TV career, Jay Leno focused on stand-up comedy but also essentially became a full-time YouTuber.

The 75-year-old car collector drove a long list of priceless vehicles for his channel, from his new McLaren W1 to the Cadillac Celestiq and an iconic classic Mustang.

He even showed his viewers a car that’s so rare even Mercedes forgot about it.

Even so, the presidential Cadillac still stands out as the most important and probably the most expensive car he ever talked about.

Secret Service agents Steve Abel and Jay Nasworthy revealed some interesting information about the armored limo, including what happens to it when it’s replaced.

For security reasons, there’s very little about the car we’re allowed to know.

We know it’s bulletproof, but the Department of Homeland Security doesn’t explain how and what they did to it to make it bulletproof.

We can’t get a look inside in the video, and even everything about the identity of the people who built it is also classified.

However, there are at least three things Nasworthy was allowed to reveal, and all three are quite intriguing.

Jay Leno’s Garage

Let’s start with the name: The Beast.

The presidential Cadillac is known by many nicknames, including Cadillac One and First Car, but most people like to call it The Beast.

As it turns out, no one knows where that moniker came from, and the Secret Service doesn’t actually call it The Beast or Cadillac One.

“We don’t know where the name comes from. We just call it a parade limousine,” Nasworthy said.

The second thing he explained is that at least two identical Cadillacs are always traveling with the US President, and Homeland Security generally uses multiple Boeing C17s or C5s to transport the fleet of the US President’s security detail.

Jay Leno’s Garage

The last and perhaps most interesting bit of info that Nasworthy revealed is what happens to the armored limo after it’s replaced.

“We typically want to replace it every eight years,” Nasworthy.

At that point, Jay Leno asked the question we all wanted to ask.

“When these are taken out of service, are they broken up and disassembled? Obviously they can’t be sold,” Jay Leno said.

To which, Nasworthy responded, quite firmly.

“No. They are destroyed,” he said.

“So they’re not donated to a museum,” Jay Leno asked.

“No, sir. They are destroyed,” Nasworthy repeated, once again with no hesitation and an unflinching tone.

It’s always sad to see cars being destroyed but, on this occasion, the rationale behind this decision is so obvious it clearly justifies the decision.
