Rupert Grint bought the most unlikely ‘dream’ vehicle after making his ‘Harry Potter’ fortune

Rupert Grint – aka Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise – bought an unlikely dream vehicle after making a fortune with his movies.

A while back, having cashed his first checks with multiple zeros, he bought an ice cream van.

He bought the ice cream truck while still filming the Harry Potter movies and, apparently, he even turned up to the final day of filming in it.

He bought it for fun, but for one good reason, he ended up turning it into an actual ice cream van.

Grint is reportedly worth around $50 million, most of which came from his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise.

When he bought the ice cream truck years ago, his net worth probably had fewer zeros in it, but he was certainly still in a position to afford other vehicles as well.

Even so, he decided to buy this relatively humble mode of transport.

We’re hardly surprised, considering co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, bought a car worth $5,000 despite having millions in the bank.

Back in 2014, Grint spoke about his ice cream truck in an interview with the Daily Mail, during which he admitted that he had an awkward encounter the first time he took it for a spin.

“My first ambition was to become an ice-cream man, which is why I bought the Bedford van,” Grint said.

“Not long after I first got it, pulled into a pub to do a U-turn and there were eight kids with their pocket money out, hoping to buy a 99 or whatever.

“I keep my van well stocked. It’s got a proper machine that dispenses Mr Whippy ice cream and I buy my lollies wholesale – for for a tenner – so I never run short.”

Ice cream vans used to be hugely popular decades ago, only for the trend faded away in recent years.

However, some ice cream brands are trying to bring them back.

A while back, Häagen-Dazs partnered with West Coast Customs to turn a custom Cadillac into an ice cream truck, with an ice cream freezer in the trunk.

Then, even more recently, Rivian teamed with Ben & Jerry’s to create the coolest ice cream trucks to date.

Long may this trend continue.
