Following the success of the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre, the marque has reportedly committed to going all-electric after 2030 and has two new EVs in the works.

With many countries considering the phasing out – or restriction of – combustion engines, the EV market is growing.

As interest grows, more and more marques are keen to invest in their EV offerings to try and get ahead of the competition.

One such brand is luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce which is reported to be aiming for a line up made exclusively of electric vehicles by 2031.

Rolls-Royce has already dipped its toe in the EV market, with the launch of the Spectre late last year.

At its launch, Rolls-Royce Director of Global Communications Emma Begley said the car was solid proof ‘you can make a fabulous Rolls-Royce without our V12 in front of it’.

The Spectre was no ordinary EV. The company put it through 1.5 million miles of testing and tested it across a broad variety of environments – from the -40C blasts in the Arctic Circle to the searing 50C heat of the Sahara.

The 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre is one of most luxurious EVs out there, offering the slick styling and attention to detail you’d expect from Rolls-Royce combined with a powerful dual motor setup that produces 567 horsepower.

While some purists may crave a beefy V12 in their RR, such as you’d find inside the achingly exclusive – and wildly expensive – Arcadia Droptail.

It seems that Rolls-Royce is keen to plough ahead with electric engines, according to a new report in Automotive News.

The article claims that Rolls-Royce will be retiring all its combustion engines after the 2031 model year.

Former brand CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös told the publication that Rolls-Royce and electric engines were a natural fit.

“It’s silent, super torquey and delivers in an even better way that magic carpet ride,” he told Automotive News last year.

However, he went on to say that the company hadn’t ‘fall out of love’ with the V12 and that it would still be producing in the near future – until they’re retired for good.

The publication goes on to claim that the marque is working on some new EV models, including a new SUV that will be smaller than the ever-popular Cullinan and will land in 2027.

It also claims a new electric sedan is in the works that will be launched as a replacement for the Phantom.

This as-yet-unnamed car could be introduced by 2028, according to the publication.

If that’s not quite enough exciting EV news for you, there are also plans to give the Spectre a refresh in 2027.

Exciting times ahead for fans of EVs.
