Renault has unveiled its most expensive car ever: the Renault 5 Turbo 3E – a ‘mini supercar’ which packs a powerful 540 horsepower.
The French carmaker is best known for its range of cars and vans.
However, it has gone all out with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E electric vehicle.
The car will be made in a strictly limited run of 1,980 units and will cost around six times what a standard Renault 5 costs.

Renault’s most expensive car is a mini supercar
To understand where the Renault 5 Turbo 3E came from, you need to go back to the 1980s.
Back then, the French car manufacturer launched the beloved Renault 5 Turbo.
Fast-forward a few decades, and the car has a very 21st-century update.
For starters, it’s now an all-electric vehicle, powered by a 70kWh battery that Renault says can charge from 15 percent to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
It’s also packing a real punch. Its EV powertrain can pump out 540 horsepower and can do 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in less than 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 268km/h (167mph). Impressive stuff.
“In 1980, Renault 5 Turbo was the first French production car with a turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 160hp,” Renault says.
“In 2025, Renault 5 Turbo 3E gives the legend a boost with a dual 540hp electric powertrain and far superior performance.”
Renault 5 Turbo 3E will have ‘extreme customization options’
The car will be made in a strictly limited run of just 1,980 – a nod to the year the original Turbo was launched – and is expected to sell out pretty darn quickly.
According to the carmaker, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be available with ‘extreme customization options’, which include the chance to choose both the interior and exterior colors as well as historic liveries and fresh rims.
Renault promises that this means each of the 1,980 made will be ‘unique’.
As you might expect from a limited edition motor such as this, it comes with a steep price tag.
In fact, it’s the most expensive Renault to date, with a starting price of around $180,000, and that’s before you get to the customization options.
Reservations for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E are open now, with first deliveries expected in 2027.
