In late 2022, SNL hosts Pete Davidson and Colin Jost bought the oldest ship in the Staten Island Ferry fleet — two years later, it is still abandoned and in rough shape.
Both SNL comedians hail from New York and are good friends in real life.
The self-proclaimed “idiots” are also extremely wealthy.
So when they decided to buy a decommissioned ferry, it seemed very on-brand for them.

Colin Jost and Pete Davidson’s abandoned ferry
The SNL hosts decided to buy the ferry because they used to ride it as kids. There was no other reason.
Plus, they got it for a steal at ‘just’ $280,000 at an auction.
However, the ferry wasn’t exactly in pristine condition.
The ferry was retired due to excessive wear and tear and also had a massive fire in the engine room.
In recent interviews, the pair of comedians said that maybe they should have planned this beyond the “let’s buy it” stage.
Perhaps they could take inspiration from this group of friends who converted a shipwreck into a cozy lounge for gaming.
No plan for the decommissioned ferry
Both Pete Davidson and Colin Jost wish they had come up with a plan for what to do with the ferry after buying it.
To this day, they still call this the dumbest thing they’ve ever done (sober or not).
However, there was a time when Pete almost joined a short ride to space with Jeff Bezos’s space travel company, Blue Origin.
So, buying the ferry isn’t exactly the craziest thing he’s ever signed up to do.
Still, it’s quite a shame that the abandoned ferry is still floating without purpose.
Plus, it must cost them a fortune in docking and storage fees.
Let’s just hope that the SNL hosts manage to restore it or at the very least sell it so it’s no longer floating aimlessly.
