When you see a McLaren on the road, has the question of running costs ever crossed your mind?

The supercar brand produces some of the finest vehicles in the world.

However, producing the best often translates into expense for the owner.

Here is a rundown of how much it will cost you to run a McLaren.

Is the McLaren high maintenance?

The average price of the brand’s supercars to begin with is somewhere around $250,000.

So firstly, congratulations if you’ve even made it this far.

Interestingly, the British brand offers a very extensive warranty program for their new supercars.

In the UK, the company offers an unlimited three-year warranty for all of their new cars.

However, for Australia and North America, the Extended Warranty is even better.

According to McLaren, it ‘covers most factory-fitted components for mechanical and electrical failure and includes all parts and labor charges required for repair.’

It is also ‘available until your car is 15 years old, with less than 75,000 miles on the clock.’

If your repairs are outside of McLaren’s warranty, then the costs can get a little tricky.

A service every year/10,000 miles, according to Consumer Affairs, will cost around $2,800 per year.

Admittedly, that is pretty expensive compared to some of its supercar rivals.

How much is insurance?

Much like every other car brand, insurance is dependent on several factors.

Straight off the bat, we can tell you this – don’t look at a McLaren if you’ve just passed your driving test.

Additionally, it can also depend on the model you’re looking for.

We certainly don’t exactly recommend looking at the P1 or the F1.

However, if you take the 720s as an example, it will cost you around $3,000 per year to insure.

If you own one of these cars, make sure to shop around to try and find the best deals that you can.

Daily driving and fuel costs

Naturally, being a high-performance supercar, one doesn’t exactly buy a McLaren for fuel economy or commuting.

Again, however, the actual costs of daily driving and fuel depend on so many different factors.

If you have a real lead foot, or you drive your McLaren regularly, then naturally, you can expect to be at the pump much more frequently.

Most McLaren models only get into low/mid 20s in terms of miles per gallon.

The majority of McLarens also come with a 72 liter gas tank.

The average gas price in the U.S. is around $3 per gallon.

That means you could roughly expect to spend around $60 to fill your McLaren with gas.

Again, however, if you drive it fast or frequently, then that figure will shoot up – quickly.

If fuel economy is a concern, then consider the company’s hybrid models for better fuel efficiency.

And there you have it.

If you happen to be in the market for a McLaren, then hopefully this guide can help you out.
