The guy has 451,000 miles on his Tesla Model S 90D, so he knows how to get the most our of a single charge with this particular EV.

He plans a 281 mile journey, hoping that if he was efficient with charge, he can get it to last more than the advertised 220 miles of range for this particular journey.

After trying incredibly hard to make his car as aerodynamic as possible, he had to deal with terrible weather and was sabotaged mid-journey by one of his friends.

How did trying to hypermile the highest-mileage Tesla Model S go?

This group of YouTubers decided they were going to test the highest-mileage Tesla Model S and see what range it could achieve without running out of charge.

He’d already travelled more than 451,000 miles in the EV, so he was well-acquainted with it.

Hypermiling is getting as far as you can on a single charge without the EV dying.

Alex from Autoalex cars was attempting to get from Reading, Buckinghamshire, to Lizard Point in Cornwall, UK, on one single charge, which is about 280 miles.

According to Tesla, the Model S can go 220 miles before requiring a new charge. So Alex was brave to try and attempt 60 extra miles.

In order to increase the aerodynamics on his Tesla Model S, the team helped Alex seal the gaps in the EV panes with tape.

They also over-inflated the tires to 45 PSI, and even smeared Vaseline on the front to reduce air resistance.

He was sabotaged mid-journey

Not only was Alex a victim of sabotage from one of his friends during the journey, he was also somewhat sabotaged by the classic British weather.

And by classic, we mean terrible.

Up until around 210 miles into his journey, his hopes were high and everything looked good.

Then, heavy rain began to cause some issues. The use of lights and window wipers drastically reduces the range.

After the rain threw a spanner in the works, one of Alex’s so-called ‘friends’ decided to sabotage him.

They remotely connected to the Tesla app and turned on the EV’s heated seats.

With only 51 miles of projected range left and 67 miles to go, Alex considered bailing. He hoped there would be a charger somewhere along the final leg of his journey.

Eventually, Alex managed to hypermile 268 miles, just short of his 281-mile goal. But it’s still incredibly impressive considering that the EV has a predicted 220-mile range.

Well done to Alex and his highest-mileage Tesla Model S!
