The car is basically brand-new, having only covered 75 km – equivalent to 47 miles – in total.

It’s a very rare chassis number – one of only 10 in total that exist.

And it just sold on SBX Cars for more than €1 million.

The story behind the Senna XP

XP is short for experimental.

These vehicles were originally made as validation prototypes, which were then sold back to McLaren.

There are only 10 XP models in the world and each car is a one-of-one vehicle, because no two cars are the same.

This particular model is finished in Victory Grey with McLaren Orange accents and a Carbon Black Alcantara cabin.

There’s more because this particular car, registered in Germany and with EU left-hand drive spec, also comes with an XP-90001 build plate, meaning it was the very first Senna to leave the factory.

The engine is a 4.0L twin-turbo M840TR V8 rated for 789 horsepower and 590lb-ft of torque.

This one sold for €1,050,000 on SBX Cars, equivalent to USD $1.1 million.

“We are immensely proud to have facilitated the sale of this automotive masterpiece,” said Rogelio Choy, CEO of SBX Cars.

“The McLaren Senna XP represents the absolute zenith of hypercar design and performance. Its sale not only highlights our expertise in handling such rare vehicles but also underscores the enduring appeal of limited-production supercars among discerning collectors.””

Why McLaren built the Senna

In the early 2010s, McLaren started doing business as a standalone brand, debuting the MP4/12C, which was later renamed 12C.

After that, the company began developing a wider line-up of cars comprising what they called ‘sportscars’ and ‘supercars’.

Then they unveiled the P1, a spiritual successor to the original F1 from the 1990s, and a couple of years later the Senna came along.

Part of the Ultimate Series, the McLaren Senna was designed as a track-focused, but road legal, hypercar.

Named after F1 legend Ayrton Senna, this vehicle was limited to 500 units, plus 115 limited-edition versions such as the LM or the GTR.

But that’s actually without including these 10 XP models, which are even rarer.
