One of the most popular EVs is getting a makeover – Nissan is launching an all-new Nissan Leaf, but this time it will be in SUV form.

The third-generation Leaf is shifting away from its traditional hatchback form, embracing a crossover SUV design to better compete in today’s market.

With an aerodynamic silhouette and advanced technology, the new Nissan Leaf aims to stand out in the increasingly competitive EV landscape.

This transformation marks a significant milestone for one of the original pioneers of electric mobility.

The Nissan Leaf first arrived in 2011 and quickly became one of the most popular EVs worldwide.

Over 700,000 units have been sold, helping to shape the modern electric car market. Now, the Leaf is undergoing its biggest change yet.

The latest Nissan Leaf has been transformed into an EV SUV, designed to meet growing demand for crossover-style vehicles while delivering improved performance and practicality.

Inspired by Nissan’s Chill-Out concept, the new Nissan Leaf brings a fresh design language to the EV SUV category.

New Nissan Leaf

It features a coupe-like profile, boomerang lighting elements, and an aerodynamic shape with a drag coefficient of just 0.25Cd (Really low in case you didn’t know).

These updates make the Leaf Nissan most aerodynamically efficient production car to date.

The transition from hatchback to EV SUV comes with notable improvements under the skin.

The new Nissan Leaf is built on the CMF-EV platform, which also underpins the Ariya and select Renault models.

Powering the Leaf is Nissan’s advanced electric drive unit, a compact three-in-one system designed for optimal efficiency and performance.

Battery options are expected to mirror those offered in the Ariya, with 63kWh and 87kWh packs providing a projected range between 280 and 350 miles.

The Nissan Leaf will also support 130kW charging speeds, enabling fast top-ups from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

Interior details remain under wraps, but the cabin is expected to borrow heavily from the Ariya’s modern design, with a dual-screen layout and a Google-powered infotainment system.

The focus will be on combining a premium feel with user-friendly technology, helping the Nissan Leaf stay competitive with other EV SUV models such as the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, Volvo EX30, and Smart #1.

Despite these changes, production of the Nissan Leaf will remain at the Sunderland plant in the UK.

This move ensures continuity for one of Nissan’s most popular EVs and supports local manufacturing as the model enters its next chapter.

New Nissan Leaf

The transformation of the Nissan Leaf reflects a broader trend among the most popular EVs, as brands shift focus toward EV SUV designs that offer greater versatility and consumer appeal.

With its advanced electric drive unit, aerodynamic efficiency, and practical crossover styling, the new Leaf is positioned to attract a new generation of electric car buyers.

By evolving into an EV SUV, the Leaf is keeping pace with the most popular EVs of today.

The new electric drive unit, extended range, and modern design ensure that the Leaf remains a strong contender in a rapidly changing market.

As Nissan prepares for the model’s full reveal, the latest chapter in the Leaf’s story is set to reinforce its role as a leader among electric vehicles.
