New York architecture firm has proposed a futuristic skyscraper hanging from an asteroid over Dubai

This New York architecture firm has proposed the wild concept of a futuristic skyscraper that actually hangs from an asteroid in orbit over Dubai.

This concept uses a plan called the ‘Universal Orbital Support System’ which the New York architectural firm has based on the principles of a conventional space elevator.

If you lived in this space-based architectural concept skyscraper you would be treated with different views as it cycled through the 24-hour orbital cycle and the size and shape of the windows on different floors would change.

The tower, called Analemma would be the world’s tallest building, but could it even be referred to as the world’s tallest building when the foundations are in space?

This is the coolest idea for a skyscraper we’ve ever seen – it feels like something you might have seen in a sci-fi movie.

Introducing the Analemma Tower, a first-of-its-kind concept skyscraper which has been described as the world’s tallest building ever, but more realistically, it should really be described as space’s tallest tower.

Instead of having its foundations on earth, it would actually be attached by a cable to an asteroid that would be sent into orbit above Dubai.

Using a concept called a Universal Orbital Support System (UOSS), the New York-based architectural firm Cloud Architecture Office want Analemma to be based off the ‘principles of a conventional space elevator’.

That clears that up, then.

The proposed tower would be placed in an eccentric geosynchronous orbit, in the shape of a figure of eight, with the slowest part going over New York City.

The power to run the entire building would be proposed to come from space-based solar panels, and water would be filtered and recycled in a semi-closed loop system.

The view outside the windows would constantly change dependent on the 24-hour orbital system and depending on how high up you lived, the windows would be different shapes and sizes due to air pressure.

Imagine trying to go to work from this space skyscraper instead of getting stuck in traffic, your house would become space traffic.

Will we ever see this concept become reality? We don’t know, but we do know that it would be the most interesting place to live in the whole galaxy.

What we do know is that this concept is a way off, as the technology needed to build such a skyscraper doesn’t exist yet.

We can still dream though, right?
