You won’t see the new Ranger Super Duty by Ford on the streets of the US.
This Super Duty truck, capable of towing almost 10,000 pounds, is being built for Australia in 2026.
Ford has teased its arrival with a short video, in which only the truck’s front can be seen.
But if it’s coming to the Land Down Under, why not the US of A?

Taking a closer look at the Ranger Super Duty
There’s no question that the standard Ford Ranger is a formidable pickup truck.
Capable of towing up to 7,500 pounds, it could easily carry a speedboat or a 30-foot trailer.
As noted by motor1, this probably goes some way to explaining why the Super Duty version isn’t coming to American dealerships anytime soon.
It could be seen as stepping on the toes of the usual Ford Ranger.
Or its wheels, so to speak.
The new Ranger’s towing prowess is demonstrated at length in Ford’s teaser video.
It tops out at 9,920Ibs, which is 2,420 more than its predecessor.
It has a gross vehicle weight of 9,920Ibs, which is how much it weighs when loaded with passengers and fluids.
Its combined gross weight – taking the towed vehicle into account – is a whopping 17,637Ibs.
Respectively, this is a 3,750 and 5,047Ibs increase from the standard Ranger.
There’s also a good chance this upcoming truck will have a longer bed and a longer wheelbase.
Given that most Australian Rangers have diesel, it’s likely this iteration will follow suit.
It’s a common thing for cars to be touted based on their towing capabilities – one YouTube channel even compared the Toyota Landcruiser directly to its competitors to see how it stacked up.
How likely is it we’ll see a release in the US?
In addition to already encroaching on the territory of the standard Ranger, there are other factors to consider for why this truck may not make it state side.
In America, drivers already have the chance to get a Super Duty option for their F-250 and F-350.
On a F-350 with dual rear wheel spec (two wheels mounted side by side on the same hub), drivers can expect a towing power of 32,900Ibs.
With this is in mind, a Super Duty doesn’t make much sense in America.
Even if it does eventually make it over, it’ll be years down the line.
This isn’t the first time a vehicle has been elusive in the Land of the Free.
A car that had been hailed as the ‘greatest ever’ found itself being slapped with a ban from all 50 states, with a similar fate meeting the Tesla Cyberquad despite its success in China.
