American YouTuber Donut has compared the current GMC Hummer EV to the original AM General Hummer H1 to see which is more powerful.

The team pitted the two massive off-roaders against each other in various tests, from a hill climb to a tug-of-war, to determine how the EV faired against its ICE sibling.

The two vehicles are some of the most oversized SUVs money can buy.

While the Hummer EV debuted in 2021, the original H1 first appeared in 1992 and was a road-going development of the M998 Humvee used by the US military.

Despite sharing the same name, both vehicles are wildly different.

The Hummer EV weighs a colossal 9,640 lbs and has 1,000HP under the hood.

That power and weight comes at a price, with the EV costing around USD $110,000.

The Hummer H1, meanwhile, was the first road-going SUV to bear the legendary name.

Arnold Schwarzenegger convinced AM General to produce the road-going version, which was priced at around $100,000 in the 1990s.

The H1 in Donut’s video is the Alpha version, boasting a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel making 300HP.

The first challenge the two faced was a hill climb.

The original H1 handled it with ease, and the EV followed suit, easily making it down and back up the hill.

The two Hummers then take on a short rally stage, with the H1 first up.

It did the stage in 1 minute 20 seconds, setting the benchmark for the EV.

The EV was able to complete the stage in a much faster 55 seconds, annihilating the H1.

Donut then took both from 0-60 mph, with the H1 managing this in 14.38 seconds, and the EV smoking it with a time of just four seconds.

But the biggest test was the tug-of-war, which would reveal the raw strength of the two vehicles.

In the first attempt, the H1 spun its wheels, but the EV refused to do anything.

After tweaking the settings, they reran the contest, which resulted in an absolute stalemate between the pair.

Despite less torque than the EV, the H1 held its own remarkably well, indicating that the Hummer EV’s wild torque numbers perhaps aren’t strictly correct.
