Mercedes unveiled a limited-edition version of the GT 63 as a tribute to an F1 team that doesn’t actually exist and – indirectly – Brad Pitt.

The team in question is called APXGP, the fictional Formula 1 team from the movie F1.

The car is limited to 52 units globally.

But the price isn’t available yet.

The reason why Mercedes built this car

The GT 63 APXGP Edition celebrates an upcoming F1-themed movie, simply titled F1, which stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as the main protagonists.

In the film, Brad Pitt is a retired Formula 1 veteran who decides to come out of retirement to mentor a young and promising rookie, portrayed by Damson Idris.

Mercedes-AMG

The F1 cars driven in the movie by Pitt and Idris were actually built by Mercedes, which is why the German automaker designed this GT 63 as a (promotional) homage to the film ahead of its theatrical release in June.

The GT 63 features a black livery inspired by that of the APXGP team, adorned with yellow accents and a carbon fiber kit.

Mercedes-AMG

The engine is a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo that produces 577 horsepower.

Production is limited to 52 units.

The price hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the standard model starts at around $200,000, and this one will be more expensive than that.

About the movie

The movie F1 was produced by some heavyweight names in the industry, along with Apple Studios.

They threw everything but the kitchen sink at this.

Just to give you an idea, Brad Pitt was actually allowed to drive ‘his’ F1 car during the Silverstone GP weekend last year, and he’s been spotted at several GPs last year.

Filming also took place at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Monza in Italy, Suzuka in Japan, Las Vegas in the US, and Abu Dhabi in the UAE.

By the way, Brad Pitt actually saw (and recognized) Supercar Blondie’s Alex Hirschi at the Abu Dhabi GP.

Mercedes-AMG

This is because the production team wanted to make the movie as realistic as possible, which means several F1 stars, including Lewis Hamilton, will have short cameos in the movie.

Speaking of which, Brad Pitt is apparently a great driver, and even Hamilton himself was impressed.
