Mercedes is working on a new ultra-high performance SUV capable of producing 1,000 horsepower.
We don’t know what’s it called, and when it will arrive, but we do know it’ll rival cars made by Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
We also know it’ll be massive.
And we also know it’ll be massively expensive.

What we know about the upcoming ultra-high performance SUV with 1,000 horsepower
Details about it are scarce, but Mercedes has shared one image of the vehicle.
It’s camouflaged using the usual wrap that automakers often use for prototypes and test mules, but the shape is revealing.
Based on what we’re seeing, this looks like it won’t resemble any existing Mercedes SUV.
Built on the AMG.EA architecture, this is the first SUV built using the new EV platform developed by AMG.
Mercedes has promised at least 1,000 horsepower, and we can expect a six-figure price tag for a vehicle that will ideally compete with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Bentley Bentayga, but it will also rival the upcoming, and unnamed, Porsche SUV codenamed K1.
For reference, Porsche K1 will be larger and more expensive than the Cayenne.
Mercedes-Benz and its EV strategy
A few years ago, Mercedes announced a new, slightly confusing strategy with four sub-divisions.
Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG for high-performance vehicles, Mercedes-EQ for EVs, and Mercedes-Maybach for high-end vehicles.
The company is now revising that strategy, probably because they realized it made little sense to compartmentalize different versions of the same car as if they were different vehicles altogether.
For example, after unveiling the new EQS, Mercedes said the EQS would become the electric variant of the S-Class, rather than a standalone model.
As for Mercedes-AMG, it will continue to build gas cars but will also make EVs, including an upcoming one inspired by the iconic C 111 (above).
