Max Verstappen is the face and cornerstone of Red Bull Racing.

The Dutch driver has won four consecutive Formula 1 Drivers’ Championships with Red Bull Racing.

He is almost unanimously considered the best driver of his era.

Some also consider the Dutchman to be one of the best drivers of all time.

For the past couple of years, reports of simmering tension between Verstappen and Horner have made headline news.

Red Bull

It was heavily reported last year that Verstappen’s camp was extremely unhappy with the former Team Principal.

And now, Max Verstappen’s manager has commented on this morning’s bombshell.

Raymond Vermeulen, Verstappen’s manager, emphasised that the decision was internally made by Red Bull Racing.

He also emphasised that Verstappen’s team is firmly staying out of it.

Vermeulen, being quoted by De Telegraaf, had this to say:

“We were briefed in advance by Red Bull’s management that this decision had been made.

“It’s up to Red Bull to provide further explanation regarding the reasons.

We continue to focus on the sporting side and are looking for more performance, so we can return to the top. In that regard, nothing changes.”

McLaren

Red Bull Racing has faced an extremely difficult 2025 season so far.

The team currently sits fourth in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship.

And the team’s star driver, Max Verstappen, is currently a distant third in the Drivers’ Championship.

Despite retaining the Drivers’ title last season, Red Bull Racing lost its Constructors’ throne to McLaren.

The last couple of years have seen Red Bull Racing gradually cede ground to its rivals.

It has also seen several high-profile departures from its Formula 1 setup.

Adrian Newey decided to take his talents to Aston Martin, whilst Will Courtenay and Jonathan Wheatley also left.

And it appears that the recent poor form of Red Bull Racing has been the final straw.

Could the sacking of Christian Horner be a catalyst for Max Verstappen to stay at Red Bull Racing?
