Tyler Hoover, who runs the YouTube channel Hoovies Garage, had picked up a cheap Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph.

For a price of $9,999, it seemed like a bargain that was too good to be true.

And once he discovered a ‘catastrophic failure’, he soon realized that it was.

Tyler Hoover picked up a cheap Rolls-Royce Seraph for $9,999, which is a great price.

But in what he described as a ‘day of reckoning’, Hoover was coming face-to-face with a ‘catastrophic failure’.

The Silver Seraph would need about $40,000 of work, according to its last inspection.

Even in the short time he’s owned the car, Hoover has come up against some of its many faults – a coolant leak being just one.

Having already spent $2,000 on its problems, Hoover was bracing himself to shell out even more.

The catalogue of issues included clunks over bumps, wobbly braking, AC failure, window motor fault, brake master cylinder leak, suspension wear, oil leak, veneer cracks, and a rust hole near the strut tower.

It’s hard to know where to start.

“I’m not going to restore this thing, I think its next place is the junkyard,” Hoover remarked.

“But maybe we’ll get a few more years out of it, huh?”

The restoration process seemed to be going okay at first.

Hoover even said the car was on its way back to being ‘full Liberace’, a reference to the late pianist, known for his extravagant outfits.

That was until he heard something explode, and the team had to get under the car to take a closer look.

The rear line had burst when the brake had been pushed, leaving a mess on the shop floor.

Was the car past the point of no return?

New parts were ordered in, so the car wasn’t being abandoned by any means.

But Hoover was reflecting on what a money pit this car had become.

“Who thought a Rolls-Royce would break whilst at the mechanic shop?” Hoover said.

“Even though I said I wasn’t going to spend any more money on this car, I’m going to spend more money…

“I can’t wait to get it all cleaned up, it’ll look like a million bucks…and still need a million bucks’ worth of work.”

That’s life, you win some, you lose some.

This isn’t the first time that Hoover has taken on a Rolls-Royce as a project – having previously bought the ‘cheapest’ one in the US.
