The car’s current owner Ed Bolian, who sold seven cars to afford this rare beauty, is now on a mission to find its missing speed key.

Without it, the Veyron is prevented from reaching its top speed of over 250mph.

So, you can understand why he’s so intent on tracking it down.

The Bugatti Veyron is already one of the most iconic cars in the world – also once holding the record for being the fastest one around.

However, this particular car stood out even more for being previously owned by famous celebrities.

The complete story of the car is documented on VINwiki.

That’s the reason why the new owner, Bolian, gave up seven of his own vehicles to buy this masterpiece.

However, after the purchase, he realized that something crucial was missing – the speed key.

Let’s just say, it’s the key to unleashing the beast hidden inside the Bugatti Veyron.

Without the speed key, the car cannot run at its full potential.

Interestingly, Bolian, who’s based in Georgia, US, had a fake key that he used to try and unlock the car’s top speed mode.

After a few attempts the key surprisingly worked for a moment, but sadly it wasn’t a long-term solution.

After a few failed attempts at tracking the missing key down, he bit the bullet and decided to order a new key from Bugatti.

But that wasn’t an easy decision, because replacing a Bugatti speed key costs more than a lot of people’s cars.

When Steve Hamilton replaced the key to his Bugatti Chiron, it set him back nearly $14,000.

$13,547.75 to be exact.

That’s a lot of money for a key.

But considering it unlocks the Veyron’s top speed of 250mph, we’d say it’s worth it.
