This iconic MTV show, hosted by rapper Xzibit, aired back in the early 2000s and was a global hit.

But have you ever wondered what happened to the cars – and their owners – after the show?

Some of them took to Reddit to share their experiences, and they had a lot to say.

Pimp My Ride, hosted by rapper Xzibit, ran for six seasons and used the help of West Coast Customs to take people’s vehicles from drab to fab.

And the format went global, with spin-offs in Europe, Indonesia, and Brazil.

Like all reality TV, there were always questions about how much of it was actually…well, reality.

Did the cars get much use after they were pimped?

Well, three previous contestants have taken to Reddit to divulge some details about their experiences.

One such contestant was Jake Glazier.

Glazier appeared in the show’s fourth season in 2005, when MTV pimped his 1986 Buick Century.

The main problem for Jake was that if the car starts out terrible, the team doesn’t actually change anything.

“So they made it look awesome, but ‘they don’t fix any of the mechanical issues, and my car was a piece of s**t,” he said.

That is an issue.

But not only that – it ruffled some feathers when he tried to sell the car on eBay.

Viacom, the parent company of MTV, apparently got in touch to request that the listing be taken down.

Since the car wasn’t drivable in his eyes, and he couldn’t auction it off, he opted to sell it back to the TV company.

What you don’t see on the show

Another contestant, Justin Dearinger, revealed that he spent five months without a car whilst it was being worked on.

For a woman appearing on the UK version, her Ford was turned into something beyond belief – and it even had a sewing machine in the trunk.

In the years since the show went off the air, its cars have been popping all over the place, like relics of a bygone era – like this abandoned minivan recently resurfaced selling for $850.
